York's Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. Last year the parade left Clifford's Tower at 10.20am for the City War Memorial, with the silence at 11am.
Remembrance Sunday this year falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, and Armistice Day, 11 November, is the following Wednesday. City of York Council has not yet announced this year’s parade. For the last two years it has followed the same timetable: the military parade leaves Clifford’s Tower at 10.20am for the City War Memorial, and the city falls silent at 11am (City of York Council, 7 November 2025).
The quick answer
- Sunday 8 November 2026. Last year the council announced the details on 7 November.
- Last year’s timings: parade from Clifford’s Tower at 10.20am, ceremony at the City War Memorial from 10.58am, Last Post and gun salute at 11am.
- York Minster holds its own Remembrance service on the morning, with the Act of Remembrance at 11am as Great Peter tolls eleven times.
The city parade and service: what happened in 2025
The council set out the 2025 order of events on 7 November 2025, two days before the parade (City of York Council):
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 10.20am | Military parade leaves Clifford’s Tower for the City War Memorial, via the Mansion House |
| 10.45am | The Lord Mayor and Civic Party join the parade, with service people from regiments across York |
| 10.58am | Ceremony in Memorial Gardens begins with the Ode to the Fallen |
| 11.00am | Last Post and gun salute, then prayers and wreath-laying led by the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire and the Lord Mayor |
| Afterwards | Parade returns to St Helen’s Square, the Mansion House flag is lowered to half-mast, and the Lord Mayor takes the salute as the parade continues along Coney Street |
Music came from the York Railway Institute Band and the Band of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment. The 2024 parade, on 10 November, followed the same times and route (City of York Council, 2024).
What it means for you: for a view of the ceremony in Memorial Gardens, arrive well before 10.58am. To see the march past, St Helen’s Square and Coney Street are on the return route.
Marching with the Royal British Legion
The York branch of the Royal British Legion says its members and other ex-Service people assemble in Stonegate at 10am and march through the city centre to the Memorial Gardens for the 11am service, with about 150 ex-Service personnel and around 15 standards (Royal British Legion, York branch). Veterans who want to join should contact the branch.
York Minster
The Minster’s Remembrance Sunday service is “an annual service of Thanksgiving and Commemoration”, with the Choir of York Minster. At 11am it keeps the Act of Remembrance with the rest of the city: Great Peter tolls eleven times, followed by the Two Minutes’ Silence. The last listing the Minster published, for 2024, had the service at 10.30am and a Requiem Eucharist with Fauré’s Requiem at 4pm, both livestreamed on its YouTube channel (York Minster). The 2026 service is not on its calendar yet.
Roads and parking
Roads on the parade route close while the parade passes. The council lists temporary closures on its temporary road closures page in the days before. Our roadworks and travel and parking in York pages will carry this year’s closures when they are published. Also that week: the York fireworks at Rawcliffe Country Park on Saturday 7 November.
Still to confirm
- The 2026 parade times and road closures, expected from the council in early November.
- York Minster’s 2026 Remembrance services and times.
